Mr Jon Lancaster, Business Manager

The primary role of the Business Manager at the Plant Breeding Institute is to build and strengthen links with industry, clients, partners, and collaborators. While based at PBI Cobbitty, the Business Manager also works closely with the University’s commercial arm: Sydnovate.

The Plant Breeding Institute conducts research or contract breeding services funded by a variety of sources, including Research & Development Corporations, CRC’s, and private industry. We currently have breeding programs in cereals (wheat, rye, triticale) and horticultural crops (including ornamentals and turf) which are carried out at our Cobbitty (38 ha) and Narrabri (480 ha) sites.

In addition, we have controlled temperature glasshouses and growth rooms, a grain quality laboratory, and other laboratory facilities for plant pathology, molecular genetics, tissue culture, and cytogenetics.
