Dr Carina Moeller

Research interests

I have a passion for modeling agricultural systems including climate applications, and I would like to better understand benefits and costs of applying ecological principles in agriculture.

I am using simulation modelling to research constraints to the sustainability and productivity of farming systems in dryland agricultural regions. My major research interests are (i) the application of climate knowledge to improve the management of agricultural systems in variable and trending climates, (ii) the quantification of ecological and economic trade-offs in farming systems, and (iii) the identification of crop characteristics for improved performance of cropping systems in water-limited environments.

Background

Carina Moeller received an engineering degree in agriculture (Dipl-Ing. agr) from Justus-Liebig University and the degree of a doctor in agricultural sciences (Dr. sc. agr.) from Hohenheim University, Germany. She conducted much of her post-graduate research at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) in Syria, and was also a visiting fellow at the Agricultural Production Systems Research Unit in Toowoomba, Australia. In 2004-2006, she was a post-doctoral fellow with CSIRO Plant Industry in Western Australia. In 2007, Carina joined the faculty as a lecturer.
