Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
This applied science degree will provide you with a broad-based science training that focuses on the development of analytical, quantitative, computing and communication skills. You will learn how to apply the knowledge and principles of science to the understanding and management of production and processing of agricultural products, and to the management and conservation of natural resources.
In the first two years of the degree you undertake core units of study designed to provide fundamental scientific principles as well as a basic overview of agricultural science and natural resource management. In the third year you undertake a range of elective units that are most appropriate for progression to your fourth year specialisation. You will gain research skills in fourth year that are highly regarded by employers through the completion of a research thesis.
The specialisation in Livestock Production is offered in conjunction with the Faculty of Veterinary Science, and differs from specialisations available in the BAnVetBioSc. It is intended for students with interests in mixed farming systems, the interaction between animal and crop production and natural resource management, and agribusiness.
Students who choose this specialisation will complete the 4th Year units in sustainable grazing systems and professional practice, a research project related to the animal/plant or animal/grain interface, economics or animal genetics; and include electives in 3rd and 4th Year in animal reproduction, animal nutrition, animal structure and function, and agribusiness.
